Carvin, Reverend and Vox Bring New Products to the Table
Reissues and Expansions of Successful Products
by Scott Terry
Carvin is reintroducing their legendary V220 electric guitar. Originally introduced in the 1980s, the V220 was played by chart-topping artists of the decade and is one of two 1980s-era guitars that customers asked to be reissued.
The V220's standard configuration incorporates the M-bridge with strings fed through the body. This bridge is set into a routed pocket on special heavy studs. The strings' feed through the body creates increased downward pressure on the bridge, resulting in exceptional sustain and tone. A Floyd Rose tremolo is optionally available.
The V220 features an alder body, rock maple neck and a 25" scale. Further increasing the V220's overall level of playability is its ebony fingerboard with a 12" radius and 24 medium-jumbo frets. Augmenting the look of this dynamic instrument is its V-shape headstock.
The V220 features C22 humbuckers. This proven design, with its extra windings and special quarter-inch-thick Alnico-V magnet, delivers a warm, sustaining tone with rich harmonics. Additional tonal options are available via a push/pull coil-splitting switch. This outstanding guitar offers Sperzel locking tuners and chrome hardware.
Carvin's V220 includes a varied assortment of standard colors, including black, classic white, red, pearl white, pearl red, pearl blue, tung oil, plus clear satin and clear gloss. Carvin offers a wide range of upgrades, including black chrome and gold hardware, alternate bridge and neck pickups, color options for the humbuckers, a variety of fingerboard, headstock and headstock overlay options, not to mention an almost endless assortment of colors and finishes.
Reverend Jetstream HB 10th Anniversary Guitar
In celebration of Reverend's 10th anniversary, this limited edition guitar will only be offered through 2007. Features include a silver metal flake top and 10th anniversary logo on the back of the headstock. Each guitar will also be hand-signed on the back of the headstock by Reverend founder Joe Naylor.
The Jetstream features a 25.5" scale, bolt-on maple neck, chambered mahogany body with solid spruce top, two Reverend humbuckers and a bass contour control. The bridge pickup is slightly hotter than a vintage PAF and the neck pickup slightly cleaner. The 22-fret rosewood fingerboard has a 12" radius.
Vox Expands DA Series of Portable Amplifiers
Vox Amplification introduces two new models in its DA Series of portable digital amplifiers. Based on the popular DA5, the new DA10 and DA20 feature realistic amp styles, built-in high-quality effects, and the convenience and flexibility of both AC and battery power options.
The 10-watt DA10 and 20-watt DA20 can also run at 5 watts on battery power for further portability. A unique power select switch lets the user adjust the power amplifier output by selecting one of three values: MAX, 1.5 watts or 1/2 watt. This helps to extend battery life, and also allows the player to turn the master volume all the way up to drive the power amp for maximum tone and feel while keeping the output volume level reasonable.
Both amps feature 11 guitar amplifier tones ranging from pristine clean to outrageous overdrive to chunky rhythm; all can be dialed up instantly. Eleven single and combination effects include auto wah, compressor, delay, reverb, flanger, phaser, chorus, tremolo and rotary. Additionally, there is built-in noise reduction and all effect parameters are fully adjustable.
In addition to a mic input with its own level control, an auxiliary input enables connection to an external audio device such as a mixer, CD or MP3 player. The inputs may be used simultaneously, enabling the DA5 to serve as a complete rehearsal amplification solution.
A headphone/line output can be used for private or late-night practicing, or for direct connection to a mixer or recorder. The output also adds cabinet tonality and character for a sense of "air" and depth. The DA10 and DA20 are each equipped with two VOX original design speakers. The DA10 is loaded with 2 x 6.5" speakers, while the DA20 offers 2 x 8" speakers.
