Free Willie

The Inside Scoop
by ICX
FREE WILLIE: Because there are obviously no hardened felons to pursue in Louisiana, state police went after Willie Nelson last month, issuing misdemeanor citations for possession of narcotic mushrooms and marijuana to the peace-loving country artist and four others on his tour bus after a morning traffic stop on a Louisiana highway. The citations were issued after a commercial-vehicle inspection of Nelson’s tour bus, according to a news release from state police. A search produced 1 1/2 pounds of marijuana and 0.2 pounds of narcotic mushrooms. What, no munchies to go with that?

TO THE SHOCK AND DISGUST OF AMERICAN MEN, CONNOISSEURS THAT THEY ARE: Organizers of Spain’s top annual fashion show, the Pasarela Cibeles, rejected five models for being "too thin." The models were over 5 feet 7 inches and weighed less than 121.25 pounds. The models have been instructed to pump up their weight by exactly .75 pounds in order to register as acceptable but not quite obese, according to international modeling standards. Their breakfasts will now consist of two Cheerios instead of one.

NOW ALL THEY NEED IS TO LEARN HOW TO SPELL Y’ALL: Carrie Underwood was selected by the state of Oklahoma to participate in their statewide literacy initiative for the "Read Ya'll" poster campaign. These posters were funded by Underwood's hometown library system, the Eastern Oklahoma District Library system, and are distributed free of charge to every public, school, academic and special library in the state of Oklahoma. Underwood is the sixth cover subject since the campaign began in 2002. Previous campaigns included Governor Brad Henry and First Lady Kim Henry, Toby Keith, Kristin Chenoweth, James Garner and Dana Dunbar, Oklahoman author.

THE INFAMOUS BUTCHER COVER(S): On October 24, Restless Records will release Butchering The Beatles, featuring an all-star lineup of over 50 internationally known recording artists. Produced by Grammy Award-winning producer/guitarist Bob Kulick and ace engineer Brett Chassen, Butchering The Beatles features 12 cover versions of the Beatles’ chart-topping hits. Included on the CD, and getting by with a little help from their friends, are vocalists Alice Cooper, Lemmy Kilmister, Geoff Tate, Billy Idol, Jeff Scott Soto, Billy Gibbons, Jack Blades, Tommy Shaw, John Bush, Doug Pinnick, John Corabi, Tim "Ripper" Owens&ld are distributed free of charge to every public, school, academic and special library in the state of Oklahoma. Underwood is the sixth cover subject since the campaign began in 2002. Previous campaigns included Governor Brad Henry and First Lady Kim Henry, Toby Keith, Kristin Chenoweth, James Garner and Dana Dunbar, Oklahoman author.

STRAIGHT PINS NOT INCLUDED: The "3 Faces of Danzig," a limited-edition, toy figure series is now available. Three fully articulated figures make up the collection that highlights different eras of Glenn Danzig's career: Misfits version Danzig wears his classic skull-and-crossbones black T-shirt from the Misfits' Walk Among Us album cover, Samhain version Danzig is covered in dripping blood as on the Initium LP cover, and Danzig version Danzig is shirtless and comes complete with the trademark Danzig belt buckle and upside-down-cross medallion necklace as on the Lucifuge album. The figures are made of soft vinyl, stand 10 inches tall and retail for $75 each. Just in time for Christmas!

      1) FOR DOING NOTHING. 2) ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. 3) AROUSING MIDDLE-AGED MEN: Record chain HMV pulled several copies of Paris Hilton's Paris album that appeared to have been doctored by British graffiti artist >Banksy<. The doctored version includes a topless image of Hilton. A sticker advertises the album's "hits" - "Why Am I Famous?" "What Have I Done?" and What Am I For?"

BECAUSE 16 WILL GET YOU 20. OR IS THAT 14?: In response to a lawsuit filed September 7 in Los Angeles County Superior Court alleging that rock band Buckcherry and its labels, Warner Music Group and Atlantic Records, willingly allowed a 16-year-old girl into a music video shoot, Buckcherry’s attorney, Skip Miller of the Century City-based firm Miller Barondess LLP, issued the following statement: "The attorneys for the plaintiff (identified only as Jane Doe) have been talking to the press about this case. We feel it is necessary to set the record straight. The claims in this case are entirely unfounded and without merit. Strict precautions were taken to ensure that only those over the age of 18 would gain access to the music video shoot. The casting ad called for over-18 talent only, signs were posted to that effect at the venue, and IDs were checked at the door. This woman not only used a phony ID to gain access, but filled out and signed a talent release form with what we now know to be false birth date information to match her phony ID. She was later seen boasting into the camera about her exploits in the video. This lawsuit was filed almost a year after the video was shot, only after the financial success of the band. We are going to defend this action vigorously and let the evidence speak for itself." Oh, for cryin' out loud, would you guys just relax? Like 16-year-olds don't hang out backstage at your shows. You're the envy of every 40-something old geezer. Now, go chill on Willie's tour bus, why don'tcha!
